Ana Sagar Lake
Thuogh an artificial lake, Ana Sagar Lake has its own grace and charm. Built by AnajiTomar (AnangpalTomar), grandfather of Prithvi Raj Chauhan, it is the largest among all the lakes in Rajasthan; spreads over 13km. Following the defeat of Ajmer in the hands of Mughals, emperor Shah Jahan commissioned the pavilions (locally called ‘Baradaris’) and emperor Jehangir built the DaulatBagh Gardens around the lake. The reservoir also has an island in the centre that can be accessed by hiring boats.
According to the legends, when AulyaMoinuddin Chishti arrived in Ajmer, he was denied water from this lake. Upon his humble request, he was granted a cup of water from the lake, and as he was offered with the cup, the lake dried up. The saint later on complied by the locals’ request to returned back the water and was since then obeyed by people of all caste and religion.
