Urs Festival
An annual festival held on the death anniversary of Sufi saint MoinuddinChisti, Urs Festival is one of the major festival in Rajasthan. Celebrated for six consecutive days in Ajmer, this pious festival is celebrated during the seventh month of Muslim Calendar, and is attended by devotees from all background from almost all the corners of the country.
Among all the six days of Urs Festival, the last day is considered as the holiest, and is marked by the recitation of ‘Shirja’ by the khadims of the saint followed by recitation of prayers. Qawwals from across the country assemble at the Dargah and sings in the praise of the saint. Festivity of the Urs Festival comes to an end with the firing of a canon on the last day.
