Desert Festival
A plethora of cultures, colours, and fiesta, the Desert Festival in Jaisalmer is among the most grand festivals in Rajasthan. An annual festival that is celebrated for two consecutive days in the month of Magh in Hindu Calendar (somewhere in the month of February); around three days prior to full moon, it is one of the most gala festivals in the entire of the Desert Capital.
Beginning with a grand procession from the magnificent Jaisalmer Fort to the ShahidPoonam Singh Stadium, Desert Festival celebrates the establishment of Maharaja RawalJaiswal’s kingdom as predicted by Lord Krishna! During the festival, locals wrap themselves in their traditional attires; they sing and dance while narrating the happenings in the desert. In addition to the liveliness and the perfect mixture of colours along the rhythm of folk music, Desert Festival also highlights the popular ‘Gair’ and ‘Fire Dance’ throughout the two days.
Alongside grand celebrations, locals also displays and participates in various enthralling acts. Camel polo, performing stunts while riding on camels, tug-of-war, turban tying, moustache competition, and Mr Desert Competition are some of the main events of the Desert Festival in Rajasthan.
