Rani Padmini Palace
Every bit of Chittorgarh is dotted with a historic tale; and Rani Padmini Mahal or ‘Padmini Mahal’ is a prime name in this league! A magnificent royal courtyard built for the privacy of the queens of Chittorgarh, this three-storeyed palace stands on the banks of a lotus pool and has high pavilions that accounted for the privacy of the royal ladies.
Named after Rani Padmavati, whose bewitching beauty provoked AlauddinKhilji to attack Chittorgarh. Even though Maharaja Ratan Singh lost the battle, Rani Padmavati saved her honour and dignity by conducting a ‘jauhar’ (self-immolation). Beauty and appeal of Rani Padmavati Palace is often compared with that of the queen herself.
